A Game Changer for Comfort or A Total Waste of Weight?
Cyclists know that even minor discomfort can evolve into a major deterrent on longer rides, think Unbound Gravel. That’s where the Redshift ShockStop Pro Endurance seatpost steps in, promising to reduce fatigue by absorbing road vibrations. But how does it stack up against competitors, and what makes it unique? Let’s dig in!

First Impressions: A Substantial Seatpost for the Long Haul
Weighing in at 504 grams, the Pro Endurance model is noticeably heavier than the standard ShockStop Pro seatpost (423 grams). This added weight can be attributed to its enhanced endurance-focused design. While some might balk at the extra grams, it’s essential to consider the trade-off: unparalleled comfort for endurance rides. Out of the box, the seatpost feels robust and well-constructed (however we ran into issues early on but more on that later). Unlike minimalist carbon options, this seatpost screams durability, a crucial feature for gravel and adventure cyclists who prioritize reliability over shaving a few grams.
Setting up the seatpost with your saddle can be somewhat frustrating. While it likely doesn’t take but a minute or two longer than most seatpost to install, you will find yourself frustrated getting your allen wrench into the oddly angled bolts. The magnetic cover can also be annoying as it constantly snaps back in place or onto your wrenches. Pro tip: totally remove the cover for the time being and install it back later.

Ride Performance: Where It Shines
On the road, the ShockStop Pro Endurance seatpost transforms rough terrain into a much smoother ride. The elastomer suspension system, a hallmark of Redshift products, works wonders here. Potholes, gravel, and washboard roads feel less jarring, if not almost none existent, while allowing you to stay seated and maintain consistent power output.
Compared to lightweight carbon posts like the Specialized Roval Terra Seatpost or bikes like the Trek Checkmate, which rely on compliance for shock absorption, the ShockStop actively mitigates vibrations. This means less fatigue over time, a crucial advantage for endurance events or multi-day tours. While carbon seatposts might feel marginally more responsive, the ShockStop excels in reducing discomfort, especially over prolonged rides.
The difference is immediatly noticeable if you have more than one bike. I typically do longer rides right now on a Trek Checkmate SLR and when switching back to a big with the Redshift seat, it feels so incredibly smooth and comfortable compared to that of the Checkmate. So much so that at times I wonder if I like my drastically cheaper aluminum bike more than the high dollar Checkmate SLR.
Comparison: Pro Endurance vs. Standard ShockStop Pro
- Weight: The standard Pro model is lighter by 81 grams, making it a more appealing option for road riders focused on weight savings. However, the Pro Endurance shines in its ability to handle extreme conditions and heavier riders without compromising its suspension effectiveness.
- Adjustability: The Pro Endurance has the added benefit of being able to adjust the preload which is a nice benefit to helping you customize your ride.
- Application: Where the standard Pro is a great all-rounder for mixed terrain, the Endurance model targets long-distance riders. The extra weight feels justified when comfort and durability take precedence over speed.
- Aesthetics and Design: Both models share a similar look, but the Pro Endurance’s slightly bulkier profile signals its rugged build. Riders who prioritize sleekness may lean toward the standard Pro model.

Issues with the Shockstop Endurance Pro
Weight-conscious cyclists may hesitate to pick up the Pro Endurance model. At 504 grams, it’s a significant jump compared to carbon alternatives or even the lighter-weight ShockStop Pro. However, for endurance cyclists, comfort and reliability often outweigh (pun intended) weight considerations. If your rides often stretch beyond the century mark or venture into unforgiving terrain, the extra grams may be a small price to pay for enhanced comfort.
We also encountered a small reliability issue you should be aware of—and can prevent. After roughly 400–600 miles of riding, I noticed the “suspension” had almost zero preload and was collapsing immediately. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a bushing sticking out of the side of the seatpost. After some effort with my multitool, I realized it wasn’t moving.
Upon closer examination, I discovered a retention pin underneath the bushing that provides tension. After loosening the pin, I was able to push the bushing back into place and re-tighten the retention pin. Since then (about 1,000 miles ago), I haven’t had any further issues. Pro tip: Double-check the retention pin before any big event!
UPDATE: I have talked with the owner of Redshift and they have taken note of this issue and the engineers have fixed the issue with the retention pin being sent under torqued.

Who Is It For?
The Redshift ShockStop Pro Endurance seatpost is not for everyone. Road cyclists chasing marginal gains or those who obsess over bike weight may prefer a lightweight carbon alternative. However, for endurance cyclist, gravel riders, or commuters dealing with unpredictable surfaces, this seatpost is a revelation.
It blends durability with performance, making it a dependable choice for long, challenging rides. While heavier than many competitors, its ability to significantly reduce fatigue makes it a worthwhile addition to any bike built for comfort and adventure. If you’re the type of cyclist who dreams of smoother rides over longer distances, the Pro Endurance seatpost just might be your new best friend.
